PRESS RELEASE of Zak Doorsandwindows Expo at Mumbai, India in 2009
Who’s who from real estate and construction industry visits Zak Doors & Windows Expo
Large visitor turnout, new products and processes, highlights of India’s largest fenestration show Zak Doors & Windows Expo that concludes successfully
Into its fourth edition, the Zak Doors & Windows Expo, which ran May 2 – 4, 2008, had over 5,000 trade visitors consisting of top stalwarts from the industry like architects, builders, promoters, interior designers, corporate decision makers, bureaucrats and professionals related to or interested in this field converge to the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), on all the three days.
Exhibitors expressed great satisfaction over the kind, quality and number of visitors, while visitors were equally impressed with the quality of exhibitors, exhibits and the products profiled at the venue.
From early morning of the first day itself, visitors were seen in animated conversation with the over 100 participants who had flown in with their products and equipment from not only all the different corners of the country, but all around the globe from countries as far away and diverse as Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Portugal, UK, USA, Turkey, Australia, Korea, Japan and China. The over dozen exhibitors from the Republic of China with their own separate pavilion offering a wide range of ready-to-fit metal and wooden doors, as well as various kinds of processing machinery for the fenestration industry was a major attraction amongst the visitors.
“The recent boom in the construction industry has made India as the most favored destination for the fenestration industry. Almost all the major cities and satellite townships are coming up with construction projects fuelled by the continued growth in the economy. New technology is playing a pivotal role in helping the manufacturers of doors and windows to compete in the international market,” said Mr Syed Zakir Ahmed, chairman and managing director, ZAK Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Private Ltd., organizers of the show.
Showcasing the latest
As in the previous edition, this expo too saw uPVC manufacturers participating in a major way. After all, as Mr Jatinder Wasan, managing director, WH Wintech Private Ltd., noted, “The uPVC is going to revolutionize the doors and windows industry and gnaw into the share of aluminum. Five years from now, use of common aluminum profiles will be reduced to a low; uPVC will take over. That was what happened the world over. India is heading the same way!”
Many companies too this opportunity to showcase the latest they had on offer. For one, Fenesta Building Systems had on display their Series 3000 monsoon-proof and wind resistant windows, an ideal product for high rise buildings of Mumbai often lashed by heavy rains and high pressure winds. These windows have been precision engineered to counter wind loads up to 3000 Pa (249 kmph) and to withstand torrential rains. The system is made unique by a special ‘hurricane bar’ to resist heavy winds and a ‘rain track’ that drains rain water outside thereby effectively preventing it from seeping indoors.
Fine Window Systems Private Ltd., a new entrant with their plant located at Silvassa, a Union Territory, on the Maharashtra – Gujarat border, had on display their new range of uPVC doors and windows that included a model with wood grain finish.
Italian brand Savio was in India with their range of tilt and sliding window systems that could hold weights up to 200kg. Said the company’s Area Export Manager Mr Marco Innocenti Torrini: “India is a growing and interesting market. It is at exhibitions like this that we get to explain our point of view and the wide range of products and technical solutions that we have on offer.”
Portalp, a French company had displayed their new range of automatic doors. A variation of their well-known Tina range of doors, the doors christened Tina India, was made specially made for Indian conditions, said Mr Emmanuel Smith, Directeur Commercial, Portalp International. “India is a fast growing market. But decision making and meeting decision makers take up a lot of time. It’s so nice that we are able to interact with so many key decision makers here at the Expo in such a short time!”
Sio Vassundhara International Private Ltd., who represents Portalp in India, had on display a completely knock-down stainless steel railing system and an economical range of automatic doors.
Ms Uma Thyme, marketing manager Profine GmbH, Germany, who had set up a representative office in India was very upbeat about the Indian market. “India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world,” she said, adding they were happy to be at the show. “We got not just passers by, but it was a quality crowd we were looking for that kept walking in.”
The display profile included wooden, glass, PVC, uPVC, aluminum, frameless, prefabricated ready to fit doors and windows, partitions, storing systems, curtain walls, shutters, fire rated doors, besides machines to set up coating and fabricating units, as also a wide range of accessories like sealants, adhesives, seals, fittings, gaskets, hinges, tapes, fastener items, locking systems, architectural hardware as well as software for designing doors and windows.
Visitors impressed
Visitors to the show too were very much impressed at the profile of exhibitors, exhibits and products at the show. While many had marked these dates to fly into Mumbai from all over India for the event, others had come in especially from across the globe.
Mr Richard Jang, overseas sales, Capstone Engineering Ltd., Korea, was one of the earliest visitors to the show. With a capacity of 1.5 million doors per annum, the company he represents is one of the largest fiberglass door manufacturing units in the world. “I have come here specifically to identify companies who we could associate with to market our products in India,” he said.
A delegation of 10 companies from France, interested in sourcing as well as marketing door and window hardware and locking systems too were found checking out the participants and products on display at the show. Said Mr Etienne Decayeux, president, Union Nationale Des Industries de La Quincaillerie, France: “This is our first visit to study the Indian market. We are here to identify companies who we could get into joint ventures to fabricate doors, or market our products. We are interested in looking for sources for locks and hardware fittings for doors and windows.”
Mr Geoffrey Nagpal, managing director, EBCO, said it was an interesting exhibition, whereas Mr Sanjay Agarwal, director, Sanjona Builders was quite pleased to see the variety of products on offer, especially the uPVC doors and windows.
But it was the high-profile visitors who really had the last say as they weaved between the exhibits asking a question here, another question there, feeling the product and asking for more information to be sent to their offices. “There is so much I learnt at this show,” said Mr Hafeez Contractor, “It was really interesting to see so many advances, especially in the field of uPVC like the lift and shift doors and windows and uPVC profiles with a wood finish. The products are very promising and in that way it feels very good!”
For Mr Surendra Hirandani, the time spent at the show was very interesting. “At these shows, we get an opportunity to check out what is new in the market; meet different vendors… something you don’t get to do in a working day. It’s so nice to see the standard of products and the best fact is that we are becoming receptive to accept new technology!”
Seminar on Energy Saving uPVC Windows
A major highlight was a seminar on Energy Saving uPVC Windows conducted by Reliance Industries Ltd. Keenly attended by around 200 delegates, the symposium had over a dozen speakers, many who had flown in specially from countries like Austria, Germany, Turkey and the UAE. The aim of the seminar was to make the building and architect fraternity about the unique benefits of this product and encourage the manufacture / fabrication of these windows in the country.
Fenestration World launched
The Zak Doors & Windows Expo 2008 also saw the launch of India’s only magazine aimed at the fenestration industry: Fenestration World – A Journal on the Fenestration Industry. Said Mr K. Nanda Gopal, editor-in-chief: “Coming from the stable of Zak, we see this, as our varied Expos, an extension of our role of acting as a bridge between the buyer and seller.”
