Conference Background
Even though the tree plantation is adding to the ‘artificial
forests’ of the country, the natural forest coverage in India has
actually declined on account of climatic changes and human
activities including mining, power generation and road
connectivity. This loss of natural resource is also creating
serious environmental problems for reportedly every human
being needs daily oxygen produced by 16 big trees whereas in
India 36 persons share single tree for fresh air!
uPVC (unplasticized PVC) profiles is the perfect solution which
besides saving the natural resource, offer numerous techno
commercial advantages over the traditional materials!
Globally profile sector enjoys a share of around 20 %; however
in India it is just at <5 %. China’s consumption of PVC in profile
sector is more than 1.5 times the total PVC consumed in India
in all the end use sectors. Considering the mammoth growth
in the infrastructure sector and the growing awareness of
‘Green Building Concept’, uPVC profiles have a fantastic
market potential in India.
In India, the uPVC profile industry is focused around hollow
panel profiles which are used for door shutters, partitions,
false ceilings, porta cabins, etc. and casing – capping, cable
trays and decorative profiles. A small volume of PVC also goes
into making of niche products such as edge and T Bands for
furniture industry, customized profiles (as OEM supplies),
flexible profiles for gasketting/weather sealing in white goods
and automotive Industry.
In recent years, multi-chambered window & door profiles
sector has started growing because of the increasing
awareness of energy and environment conservation. Many a
builders are seen highlighting energy saving on account of the
usage of uPVC windows in their projects. Energy Conservation
Building Code (ECBC) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency also
appreciate the energy saving by using uPVC windows in place
of traditional metallic windows.
The conference is aimed at bringing together all those in the
value chain on a common platform and covering the emerging
opportunities, challenges and trends in the Indian uPVC
profile market.
